Restaurant manager, Johannesburg

"I'm originally from Kwa Zulu-Natal. I completed a one-year teaching diploma through UNISA and, aged 20 came to Johannesburg to find a teaching job. But where ever I applied they told me I was too young. They said I need to be 25 or have a child of my own. I never realized there was an age-restriction for teachers. I didn't even qualify to work as an assistant teacher.

"So now I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant. There is a lot of pressure and the hours are long but I enjoy it, although, in my heart, I still want to be a teacher."
